Myers Briggs Personality Profiling (MBTI®) is possibly one of the Western world’s best known personality indication tools. It utilises psychological types described by Carl Jung and delivers this within a framework of 16 options, making his knowledge accessible, and very useful.
The underlying rationale is that by understanding our personality type preferences (and often even that we actually have such a thing) it makes it much easier to understand and, if we wish, modify our behaviour. Taking one step further, our understanding of others’ personality preferences can help make our inter-relational behaviour more effective and reduce conflict, confusion and other issues surrounding misunderstandings.
Sometimes simply the perception of the existence of these types can be the difference that makes the difference. Taking the MBTI work still further, allows one to explore what is going on around the, and their reactions to it. For example, the conclusions they reach about situations, or how they are able to react, respond, act or interact in a work or social gathering.
The 16 MBTI personality types include:
- Extraversion or Introversion (where do you get your energy from, inner world, or outer world)
- Sensing or Intuition (when accessing information do you prefer the bare “facts” or do you tend towards adding meaning and interpretations)
- Thinking or Feeling (Is it more important for you to consider logic first, or to consider circumstances and context)
- Judging or Perceiving (Which is most important to you- to formulate a judgement, or to stay open to ongoing possibilities)
• Do you know the best way to manage an extroverted person if you are an introvert? (and vice versa)
• Do you understand the difference between sensing and intuition types when it comes to information presentation?
• How do you best communicate with a thinking type or a feeling type?
Often it just takes an understanding that there is such a the huge variety of personality types amongst us to facilitate a profound change. Taking this further, with a personal understanding of our type, we can gain “AHA” moments and breakthroughs when it comes to communicating with others.
We can offer a range of MBTI training deliveries, including one-to-one, group sessions, one-day MBTI, introduciton to MBTI or even MBTI intensives over 2-days, working with group dynamics and facilitating change.
MBTI works well with DiSC, as there are clear areas where the two models intersect.
